With elongated, pointed leaves that arch gracefully upward, Echeveria peacockii manages to look effortlessly serene, showing off a peacock-blue coloration tinged with magenta along the margins. A powdery layer of farina mutes the brightness of its hue, in exchange allowing the plant to tolerate even higher levels of sunlight, as in its native Mexican habitat. With rosettes reaching up to 4 inches across, this variety makes a stunning, high contrast addition to tabletop succulent arrangements, or as a groundcover in temperate rock gardens.
As is the case for many Echeveria, plenty of bright sunlight is the key to the richest coloration and most compact rosette form for this variety. It is also vital to avoid overwatering, which can quickly cause Echeveria peacockii to succumb to rot. To avoid this fate, be sure to utilize a porous soil mix within a well-draining pot, ensure ample airflow around the leaves and soil surface, and adhere to a thorough but infrequent watering routine.
During the winter months, take steps to protect this variety’s tender leaves from frost, which can otherwise result in permanent scarring. As the weather warms in the summertime, arches of coral, bell-shaped blooms will rise on stalks above the rosettes, providing the perfect contrast to the powdery blue of the leaves.
