Description
Graptopetalum amethystinum 'Lavender Pebbles' presents rounded, pebble-like leaves in soft pastel tones. In Jalisco, the wild species grows on rocky cliffs and slopes, rooting in crevices with sharp drainage and seasonal rainfall. The cultivated form shows a glaucous bloom that reflects shades of lavender, pink and silvery grey.
Rosettes reach about 8-12 cm across on short stems that elongate with age. Leaves are thick and water-storing; the waxy surface marks easily, so handle gently. Plants branch and offset over time, forming clumps that trail attractively from pots or over raised rockwork.
In spring and early summer, wiry stalks carry star-shaped flowers. Petals are pale with fine red speckling, providing a delicate contrast to the pastel foliage. It suits decorative containers and well-lit indoor positions in Australian collections.
